An XLR to RCA cable connects professional, balanced audio equipment (microphones, mixers) to unbalanced, consumer-grade gear (amplifiers, speakers). It converts the 3-pin balanced signal to a 1-pin unbalanced signal, allowing, for example, a pro audio interface to output to a home stereo system. It is primarily used to bridge the gap between pro audio devices (XLR) and consumer audio devices (RCA), such as connecting a DAC to an amplifier. This is an UNBALANCED cable (by definition), as XLR pins 1 and 2 are connected, but pin 3 is not. An unbalanced XLR cable uses only two conductors (signal and ground) instead of the standard three, making it susceptible to electromagnetic interference and noise, especially over long distances. For this reason, the cable is shieled end-to-end to minimize such interference. It is typically used for short, specific connections - like converting an unbalanced 1/4" output to an XLR input—rather than balanced microphone signals.
Our PREMIUM line of XLR/RCA cables feature copper 18AWG wires and full end-to-end shielding for the absolute best quality performance.
